The ALAMO LIAISON SQUADRON is hosting a GRASSHOPPER FLY-IN from 10:00am to 3:30pm on May 10th, 2008 at Cannon Field (53TX) near San Antonio, Texas. This event is part of the annual Bluebonnet picnic, fly-in and fundraiser and this year's theme is L-Birds. In addition to a gathering of aircraft, they are hoping to have a few veterans on hand who flew or worked with these aircraft. In the past this picnic has been a time of friendly fellowship with pilots from around the area, of educating the general public about the aircraft, as a test of pilots' skills with a flour-bombing and spot landing contest, and as a fundraiser to help keep the aircraft and airfield in good condition. This year's event will be similar, but with a greater highlight on the historical aspect. They hope to have some reenactors, vintage cars, and military vehicles in attendance as well. Learn about liaison aircraft as they participate in fly-bys and static displays at the museum. This biennial event features liaison aircraft, which were used by all branches of the U.S. military for a variety of missions from the late 1930s until the early 1970s.
